On his latest What’s up Prof, Walter Veith talked about the Book of Enoch, here the text I read in the video above.

There are many things in the book of Enoch that contradict EGW, especially in the latter part of the book (Partes and Medes, they writing it down, rain…). Now you will be interested to know that The Book of Enoch is composed of many sections. Wiki: “Most scholars believe that these five sections were originally independent works (with different dates of composition). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Enoch  In Qumran they did not find any snipped of chapters 37-71.

The first section, the Book of the Watchers (Enoch 1-36), contains the famous portion the apostle Jude quotes, and also the information that the apostle Peters refers to: “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment, And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person…” 2 Peter 2:4. Where in the Bible does it say that God chained angels? Only in Enoch.

Jesus did not say that it is impossible for angels to have sexual intercourse: “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.” Angels are not supposed to get married. But since some of the fallen angels did, God “delivered into hem into chains of darkness”. They broke an established boundary.

About demons breeding with women: Jesus told the Sadducees “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection, they neither marry.” Where in the Old Testament does it say this? Only in the book of Enoch. So marvel, Jesus referred to Book of Enoch as part of the Scriptures!

Besides, Ellen White does not say a word about the giants of Genesis 6:4. Why would the lineage of Seth intermingling with Cain’s create giants? Genetic enrichment alone cannot explain it. Example: An Eskimo breeding with an African Masai, in different continents and separated for millennia, will not produce giants (by the way, some versions say they were 300 cubits high, another says 30 cubits – 14m, which is more reasonable. But we are not sure about the unit, and besides, there may have been a scribal error here).

The Book of Enoch also mentions rain, but what they considered rain is not necessarily what we understand under the term, but maybe a kind of heavy dew. It’s like saying “I love carob cake” but we don’t mean the word love in it’s full sense. Or Enoch used prophetic language for what was still to happen in the future.

EGW: “During the first 2,500 years of human history, there was no written revelation.” LHU 117.3 Like Moses wrote the Genesis account, an inspired writer may have registered Enoch’s reports later on, maybe even Moses himself. Why not? Maybe during the 40 years alone in the wilderness.

EGW “We may never find any books which relate to the works of Enoch, but Jude, a prophet of God, mentions the work of Enoch” (Manuscript 43, 1900). Did she know about the Ethiopic manuscript, found by James Bruce in the late 18th century? We cannot know. If she knew about it, may she not have warned us in this same manuscript, that there is a forgery out there, put in many KJV Bibles together with the Apocrypha?

EGW “Through holy angels God revealed to Enoch His purpose to destroy the world by a flood, and He also opened more fully to him the plan of redemption. By the spirit of prophecy He carried him down through the generations that should live after the Flood, and showed him the great events connected with the second coming of Christ and the end of the world.” PP 85.5

Let us reason together: Ellen White and Jude clearly affirm Enoch prophesied. There was an original message from God to humanity through Enoch. Then why did God not preserve this message? Ellen White writes: “By a miracle of His power He has preserved His Written Word through the ages.” ML 27.5 Now, if these prophecies contained special messages relating the end time, why would God not have preserved His word for us? Is it reasonable that we may have it unvealed at the end times? Ellen G. White could have silenced about it because of the hardness of the hearts at her time, following the principle of “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.” John 16:12

Ellen White says that after a time the lineage of Cain mixed with the descendance of Seth. But she does not deny that an amalgamation between demons and persons actually happened too. Could it be a second application? Like in the case when the apostle Jude Iscariot “having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.” John 13:3. Apparently a description of something of nature, not with much meaning. Until EGW came and said: “’and it was night.’ Night it was to the traitor as he turned away from Christ into the outer darkness.” DA 654.3 Inspiration came centuries later giving a deeper meaning for a natural occurrence. The same way, EGW informs us that the breeding of sons of God and daughters of men was something natural. And now we have the additional information that it also has a more dramatic meaning, besides the mixing of Seth’s and Cain’s lineage.

Was the book of Enoch really written before Christ? Yes, that is an established fact. Wikipedia says: The older sections 1 Enoch (mainly in the Book of the Watchers) of the text are estimated to date from about 300–200 BC, and the latest part (Book of Parables) probably to 100 BC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Enoch

Manuscripts have been found in the caves of Qumran attesting to the fact. More than ten fragments of the book of Enoch, actually. https://www.deadseascrolls.org.il/explore-the-archive/search#q=’Enoch

The scrolls date a few decades or centuries before Christ. But they were copies, probably copies of copies. How can we find out how old the original is? The best assurance we find in God’s word. And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his saints. The Holy Spirit assures us that the author of this quoted text (also found in Qumran under the code 4Q204) is in fact Enoch, the seventh from Adam. Is not an obscure scribe after the Babylonian exile. It is actually the seventh from Adam. This is key. We dare not doubt the inspired Word of God. We dare not have the academic leaven from the archeologists and historians that tell us that the apostle Jude is wrong, that the Holy Spirit did not inspired this part. All scripture is given by inspiration of God. The scripture cannot be broken, said Jesus in John 10:35. Since Israel did not enter Canaan because of their disbelief, let us beware of it. Also, SDA pastors of the tend towards defending the institutional set of believes, especially the older ones. Let us be open minded for more light for this last generation.

Another evidence about the book’s inspiration is that it was only “by the 4th century that the Book of Enoch was mostly excluded from Christian biblical canons.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_of_Enoch

In the 18th century, the British traveler James Bruce discovered scrolls of the book of Enoch in Africa, held until today as inspired by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. It is of interest that EGW writes that the Ethiopians also kept the sabbath of the seventh day. GC 577.3

Considering the book was written before Christ, the fact that Jesus used enochic language is another evidence that He considered it to be part of the Scriptures: #1“It would be better for that man if he had not been born.” Matthew 26:24, Enoch 38:2.

#2 “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” Matthew 5:5

“and they will inherit the earth.” Enoch 5:7. #3 King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19 and Enoch 9:4). #4 “Inherit everlasting life” Enoch 40:9, Matthew 19:29 #5 “thousands of thousands, and myriads of myriads” Enoch 40:1, Rev 5:11 #6 “Elect and holy” Enoch 48:1, Col 3:12. #7“measure out a place for the elect and the righteous.” Rev 21:15, Enoch 48:3. #8 “and cords shall the righteous bring, that they may trust in the name of the Lord” T2 595.3, Enoch 60:3 #9 “The word of his mouth shall destroy all the sinners” Enoch 61:4 e Rev 19:15, 2Tes 2:8 #10 “The throne of his glory” Enoch 61:5 and 68:39, Math 26:64, Rev 14:14, John 5:22.

Other similarities: #11 Enoch 68:38 says: “They blessed, glorified, and exalted, because the name of the Son of man was revealed to them.” Rev 3:12 says that the new name of Jesus will be given to them. sea of glass mingled with fire #12 Ap 15:2 “I beheld the sons of the holy angels treading on flaming fire” (Enoch 70:1). #13 “Michael, one of the archangels” Enoch 70:4, Jude 1:9  https://www.johnpratt.com/items/docs/enoch.html

Despise not prophecies, prove all things! And about the hidden book EGW talks about, as apocrypha in most Bibles before 1800: the best chance is she is referring to second Ezra, or 2 Esdras. Because there are many parallels in it with EGWs first vision, and James White quotes from it several times. Enoch was not part of the Apocrypha but in some Bibles, it was contained.
